Indian team to play series between four teams in South Africa before World Cup
Dainik BhaskarDec 20, 2019, 01:31 PM IST Sports Desk. The Indian team left Mumbai for South Africa on Friday to take part in the Under-19 World Cup. The tournament will begin on January 17, with the finals being played on February 9. Defending champions India will face Sri Lanka on January 19. The four-time winning team was handed over to India’s Priyam Garg. Wicket-keeper Dhruv Chand Jurel is the vice-captain. This will be the 13th World Cup under-19.
This time a total of 16 teams are participating in the World Cup. These are divided into 4 groups. The Indian team is in Group-A while Pakistan is in Group-C. India's second match will be against Japan and third against New Zealand. India defeated Australia by 8 wickets in the World Cup final played in February 2018. Then the captain of the team was Prithvi Shaw. Manjot Kalra scored an unbeaten 101 in the final.
Two teams from each group will have four groups in the Super League. There will be only four teams in each group. Two top teams from each group will advance to the Super League. Warm up matches will be played from January 12 to 15 in Johannesburg and Pretoria. A total of 24 matches will be played in four cities and eight grounds. India has so far won 4, Australia 3, Pakistan 2 and England, West Indies and South Africa 1–1 times this World Cup.
For the series between the four teams, the Indian team will be playing the series between the four teams in South Africa before the declared World Cup. The teams will be hosts, India, New Zealand and Zimbabwe. A 16-member Indian team was also announced for the series. In this 15 players will remain of the World Cup team, only Hyderabad's CTL guard was selected as the additional player.
