American tennis star Serena Williams has withdrawn from the Miami Masters Open due to knee injury. A day before the withdrawal of 23 Grand Slam winners Serena, Sweden's Rebecca Petersen defeated in a three-set contest to confirm the third round. Serena, who won eight times in Miami, said about it, "It's tragic due to knee injury but I'm forced to withdraw from the Miami Open."
Serena, 37, is at number 10 in the world rankings. In the second round, he defeated Peterson 6-3, 1-6, 6-1. In the third round, his opponent was 18th seed Wang Kiang of China.
In the quarter-finals of the Australian Open in January, Serena had finally conceded three sets in the match against Carolina Pleicova. After the tournament, Serena got to court to play the first tournament through Indian Wales this month. In the second round of Indian Wells Masters, he won against former world number one Victoria Azarenka, but was forced to withdraw against another former number one Garbin Muguruza due to illness.
