Dainik BhaskarDec 22, 2019, 05:25 PM IST Sports Desk. Former Australia captain Ian Chappell has considered Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly better than Virat Kohli-Rohit Sharma. He believes that Sachin-Ganguly has faced much better bowling aggression than Kohli-Rohit. Chappell said the same in his column for sports website ESPN on Sunday. Sachin retired from international cricket on 16 November 2013 and Sourav in November 2008.
Sachin-Sourav is India's best couple
Chappell wrote – Kohli and Sharma are the best ODI batsmen in India. But, it is also known that Tendulkar and Ganguly faced the best bowling attack of international level for 15 years in their era. He used to have at least two best bowlers in each team during his time.
He wrote, "He (Sachin-Ganguly) always used to come to the opening in front of the world's best fast bowlers. They faced Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis of Pakistan, Kurtley Ambrose and Courtney Walsh of the West Indies, Glenn McGrath and Brat Lee of Australia, Alan Donald and Sean Pollack of South Africa, Lasith Malinga and Chaminda Voss of Sri Lanka. "
Chappell, quoting the statement of former Pakistan captain and fast bowler Imran Khan, said that you can judge anyone on the basis of his opponent. If you look at the current figures, you can compare Kohli with Tendulkar and Rohit's Ganguly. These are almost identical to each other.
Tendulkar is the first player to score a double century in ODIs. At the same time, Rohit has done this feat three times. He also played the highest individual 264-run innings in ODI history against Sri Lanka.
Sachin and Sourav pair has the highest partnership of 8,227 runs for India. It is followed by Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan, who have added 4,753 runs. Virat and Rohit's number comes at number three. The pair have so far shared 4,741 runs.
