They were defeated by Shaishai Zheng of the 5th seed China and Barbora Krajikova of the Czech Republic 6–2, 6–4. Sania-Garcia defeated Russia's Ella Kudryavtseva and Slovenia's Caterina Srebotnik 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 in the first round.

Sania, who returned to the tennis court after 2 years, won the doubles title of the Hobart International Tennis Tournament last month. Sania defeated China's Zhang and Pang Shuai 6-4, 6-4 in the final along with Nadia Kitchennock of Ukraine. This was the 42nd WTA doubles title of Sania's career.

The Australian Open did not play due to injury. Painsania dropped out of the first Australian Grand Slam Australian Open due to injury. She took to the court in her first doubles match on January 23, alongside her Ukraine partner Nadia Kitchenock. They competed against the Chinese duo of Xinyun Han and Lin Xu.
