Indian athlete qualifies for world championship
new Delhi. Katie Irfan finished fourth in 20 km walk in the Asian Race Walking Championship in Japan's Nomai and won 2020 Tokyo Olympics quota. Irfan Tokyo is the first Indian athlete to win Olympic quota

The national record holder 29-year-old Irfan took one hour and 20 minutes to 57 seconds An hour and 21 minutes time limit has been fixed for getting the Olympic quota.
Irfan also qualified for the World Athletics Championship. This competition will be played from Doha 27th September to 6th October this year. The time for qualifying for this event was 1 hour 22 minutes and 30 seconds.
Apart from Irfan, no other Indian athlete has been able to get the Olympic quota so far. Irfan's best performance is 1 hour 20 minutes and 21 seconds, which he did during the 2012 Olympics.
The period for getting the Olympic quota for walking will be from January 1 to May 31, 2020. The qualifying tournament for the other events of athletics will run from 1st May this year to 29th June 2020 next year.
Devinder and Ganpati of India have already qualified for the IAF World Championship. Devinder qualified for one hour 21 minutes and 22 seconds and Ganpati took one hour 22 minutes and 12 seconds away.
