No Indian has won the titles in this tournament since last 18 years
Last time Pullela Gopichand won Men's Singles title in 2001.
Birmingham. After the defeat of Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth in the men's singles quarterfinals of the All England Badminton Championship, the Indian challenge ended in the tournament. Along with this, India's dream of winning a title in the last 18 years was broken in this tournament.
Srikanth defeats Momota for 8th consecutive time
World number one in front of Kidambi in the quarter-finals was the challenge of Kento Momota of Japan, but they could not overcome it. Momota defeated Kidambi 21-12, 21-16.
It was a consistent eighth defeat against Kidambi's Momota. Both of them have come face-to-face on each other on 14 occasions till now. Of these, Momota has been successful in winning 11 times.
Kidambi defeated Momota 21-12, 15-21, 21-15 in the India Open on March 26, 2015. Since then there were eight matches between the two. Momota succeeded in winning all.
Srikanth did not win any title in the last season. However, in 2017 he won four important titles. They also reached the ranking of No. 2 in November 2017.
In the tournament, last year's semi-finalist PV Sindhu had to face defeat in the first round this time. B Sai Praneeth lost in men's singles in the second round.
In the first round of Praneeth, Compatriot HS was in love. In such a case, either of the two had to reach the second round. All Indian pairs were already out in the doubles competitions.
